SMOKE CURTAINS

A smoke curtain is an automatic barrier system designed to control and channel the movement of smoke during a fire. When triggered by a fire alarm or smoke detector, the curtain deploys from a concealed housing in the ceiling or wall, forming a barrier that redirects smoke away from escape routes and prevents it from spreading to unaffected areas of a building.

Window Techs smoke curtains are tested and certified under EN 12101-1 — the European Standard for smoke and heat control systems — and carry full CE Marking. This certifies that the curtains meet stringent European performance standards for smoke containment and control.

Window Techs smoke curtains provide up to 120 minutes of smoke integrity. All three models — WSC standard, WASC-01 accordion, and WDSC-01 draft curtain — are rated at 120 minutes under EN 12101-1 test conditions.

The gravity fail-safe system ensures the smoke curtain deploys automatically even during a complete power failure. The curtain is held in its retracted position by a motorised brake controlled by a 24V electronic control board. When the fire alarm triggers or power is cut, the brake releases and the curtain descends at a controlled, safe speed under gravity — requiring no manual intervention.

Window Techs manufactures three types of smoke curtains: the WSC standard smoke curtain (single and double barrel variants), the WASC-01 accordion smoke curtain for wide openings, and the WDSC-01 draft smoke curtain for draft and smoke control applications. All are EN 12101-1 certified with 120-minute smoke integrity.

Smoke curtains are installed wherever smoke compartmentation is required — including shopping malls, airport terminals, hospital atriums, hotel lobbies, commercial office buildings, data centres, car parks, and industrial warehouses. They are ideal for large open spaces where rigid smoke barriers would compromise the architecture or function of the space.

Our team reviews project drawings and specifications to recommend the correct model and configuration.

Yes. Smoke curtains should be inspected and tested at minimum once per year by qualified professionals to ensure correct operation during an emergency. Window Techs offers annual maintenance contracts across India, covering site visits, alarm trigger testing, motor checks, and certification. If a false alarm occurs, the curtains return automatically to standby position after the fire management system is reset.
